  • Easy to lose as it is very lightweight

Crickets.

Although many folks have reported this unit having a short lifespan (less than a year), this is really due to the material used to hold the seed. The hooks used to hang the feeder are made of plastic, and over time break under the weight of the feeder.

However, when properly secured to a chain link fence with wire or fishing line, this feeder has been reported to hold up well, and lasts for several years.

The Woodlink NABBFDR Audubon Dome Top Seed and Bluebird Feeder is a fantastic feeder that comes with everything you need to start your first bluebird/sparrow/ cardinal/etc. colony.

The only con that could be listed is that the top of this feeder does not come with an internal baffle to prevent larger pieces of seed from falling out of the feeder while larger birds are feeding. To fix this problem, and to help prevent uneven wear and tear on the feeder, you can simply place a dollar bill or piece of paper in the feeder. Its long enough to extend between the branches and baffle the holes while small enough for the squirrels to not be able to get in. The first time I set up this feeder, this inexpensive fix worked like a charm.

The Woodlink NABBFDR Audubon Dome Top Seed and Bluebird Feeder comes with a baffle at the base to help keep in larger seeds and protect the smaller ones around the openings. The holes are outlined in a bright metal material and are surrounded by a metal ring. This helps to hide the edges of the paper container and made the feeder look more attractive.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best bird feeder for mealworms?

Now-a-days, there are plenty of options for feeders that automatically feed mealworms. The best feeder for mealworms is the Yankee Feeder. The Yankee Feeder automatically feeds mealworms and, with a 7-inch tray that holds up to 1.5 cups of mealworms, you are sure to attract bluebirds. Other good automated feeders include the Audubon Miamor, Duracraft Ultimate, and Backyard Safari.

Where is the best place to put a bluebird feeder?

A lot of people enjoy attracting bluebirds to their backyard and some even go so far as to build special houses for them. The number one way to make this happen is to attract bluebirds to the nearest bird feeder by putting up a bluebird feeder set at the right height for bluebirds to see from the ground.

The best place to put a bluebird feeder is either at mid-level eye level, or right where a bluebird would have to fly straight up in order see it.

What are the best bird feeders to buy?

Before I use a bird feeder, I research it and make sure it is going to work, and I’m not wasting my time and money. Different types of feeders are better for different birds, and different birds are better for different types of feeders as well. Regardless of what I’m going to buy or use, I always read up on it to make sure I’m not heading down a dead end road.

Here is the complete list of five bird feeders that actually work and that I would recommend.

What kind of bird feeder do bluebirds like?

{1}. The most popular feeder is the tube feeder. It’s simple to clean and it’s the perfect size for bluebirds. It’s also easier to attach to a pole than a hopper feeder.
{2}. You can also hang a feeder in a sapling tree. Bluebirds like to perch on branches or feed close to the trunk, so this makes a lot of sense.
{3}. Another excellent option is the tray feeder. There are several types of snap open feeders, but all of them can be used to attract bluebirds. These can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Conclusion

For those of you living in the American West you’ll know how frustrating it can be when you keep purchasing the best bluebird feeders available, only to find that these are regularly raided by squirrels, grackles and/or jays!

Bluebirds are social little birds who congregate together at a feeder and enjoying the interaction of their own but they’ll also exclude other birds from feeding at the feeder for a few days afterwards. So for a fairly quiet backyard full of bluebirds, be prepared for a few squabbles.
